John “Jack” Consolie has been appointed as Outreach’s assistant director. Mr. Consolie joined the Outreach staff in June of 2025 as Outreach’s associate for advancement and communications. In his new role, Mr. Consolie will focus on programming and assist the organization’s incoming executive director, Conor Reidy.
“In less than a year Jack has become an immense asset to Outreach and, as a result, to the entire LGBTQ Catholic community. Whether during our retreat at Daylesford Abbey in Pennsylvania, on the pilgrimage in Rome, or at our regional events, Jack has excelled. In his new position, he will be even more able to help LGBTQ Catholics and their friends and families feel more at home in the church.” said Father James Martin, S.J., Outreach’s founder.
Conor Reidy said, “I’m thrilled to begin this next chapter alongside such a hardworking and kind person as Jack. His commitment to the mission of Outreach is both awesome and inspiring. I’m very excited for all we’ll accomplish together in service to the LGBTQ Catholic community.”
Since joining Outreach, Mr. Consolie has helped to manage much of the in-person programming, including Outreach’s regional events in Chicago, Rhode Island and Los Angeles; the LGBTQ retreat in Pennsylvania as well as the pilgrimage to Rome. As assistant director, Mr. Consolie will help to solidify Outreach’s strategic programming, with a particular focus on Outreach 2026, the national conference which will take place June 19-21, 2026, at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.
“Whether on an Outreach retreat or at a prayer service in a local parish for a regional event, I have seen first hand the true joy that abounds when the gifts of the LGBTQ Catholic community are celebrated in the church,” said Mr. Consolie. “As a gay Catholic, I am eager to work with Conor, Alessandra Rose and Fr. James Martin to continue forming programs and opportunities for this celebration to continue throughout the universal church.”
During his time on the Outreach team, Mr. Consolie helped organize and facilitate multiple Outreach events, in the United States and Rome, bringing together more than 1,500 LGBTQ Catholics, allies and those who minister to them in prayer and community at various events. Additionally, Mr. Consolie expanded Outreach’s ministry with young adults, in part by forming Outreach’s “Young Adult Committee,” a group of eight LGBTQ Catholic young adults who will assist in the formation and execution of Outreach 2026.
Michael O’Loughlin, Outreach’s executive director since 2024, who is departing this month to become executive editor of the National Catholic Reporter, praised Mr. Consolie’s contributions.
“In addition to his deep theological education and first-rate knowledge of the church, Jack’s optimism, energy and kindness make him uniquely effective in serving the LGBTQ Catholic community,” he said. “In just a few months, Jack has helped fortify Outreach’s programming in ways that will ensure it is able to serve our community for years to come.”
