Outreach, the LGBTQ Catholic ministry, has appointed Conor Reidy as its next executive director. Mr. Reidy, who has an extensive background in Catholic campus ministry and Ignatian spirituality, will lead Outreach beginning in January, as the ministry marks its fifth anniversary.
Mr. Reidy will succeed Michael O’Loughlin, who recently accepted the position of executive editor of the National Catholic Reporter.
Outreach’s founder, James Martin, S.J., said, “We are delighted to welcome Conor Reidy, a talented, thoughtful and experienced person with a pastoral heart, to lead our team and build on the great work that Mike O’Loughlin has done.”
Until recently, Mr. Reidy had served as director of mission and ministry for the University of Mount Saint Vincent in Bronx, N.Y., where he ran the campus ministry department and managed the university’s service and leadership program, among his many other tasks.
Prior to this position, Mr. Reidy served for a decade as assistant director of the Office of Campus Ministry and Social Action for Manhattan College, also in the Bronx, where, among other responsibilities, he developed the Lasallians in Faith Together retreat program, in which over 200 students participated annually; coordinated the college’s relations with local parishes, mosques and synagogues; and worked with students in a variety of roles, including career counseling. During his time at Manhattan College, he was trained in the Interfaith Youth Corps, which led to an increase in interfaith programming, the creation of an interfaith prayer space and the development of a multi-faith chaplaincy program. Mr. Reidy also chaired the committee on LGBTQIA+ relationships with the university.
Mr. Reidy is a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass., where he received his bachelor’s degree in religious studies and art history, and Rutgers University in Camden, N.J., where he received a master’s degree in public policy and administration with a focus in community service, international development policy and non-profit management. After graduating from Holy Cross, he worked at Fair Share Housing Development in Camden, N.J., and as a community organizer in San Pedro Apostol Parish in El Cercado, Dominican Republic.
Mr. Reidy was also a member of the Jesuit Volunteer Corps, trained as a Contemplative Leader in Action, a Jesuit-run program designed to train future leaders in Ignatian spirituality, and was a fellow at the Interfaith Civic Leadership Academy. From 2013 to 2022, he participated in the New Ways Ministry Training Program for University Chaplains.
“In the Ignatian tradition, we often speak about following where God’s invitations lead. Joining Outreach feels like one of those invitations—an opportunity to imagine, to listen deeply, and to walk with a community whose faith and resilience are a powerful witness to the church,” Mr. Reidy said.
“I’m grateful for the chance to join Outreach and to help continue a ministry rooted in welcome and accompaniment,” he said. “As a Bronx native, a Mets fan, and a lover of films, books and golden retrievers, I’ve always believed that our stories shape us — and I look forward to helping lift up the stories and experiences of LGBTQ Catholics with compassion and hope.”
As executive director, Mr. Reidy will oversee the strategic development and planning for all of Outreach’s events, including our bi-annual conference (this year on June 19-21, 2026 at Georgetown University); our bi-annual retreats (the next one in 2027), our regional events (the next in Los Angeles and Rhode Island) and our pilgrimages. He will spearhead fundraising for Outreach as well as commission articles and edit the Outreach.faith website. In this he will be assisted by Jack Consolie, associate for communications and development, and Alessandra Rose, America Media’s director of development, and the rest of the America Media staff. Outreach, founded in 2021, is part of America Media.
Sam Sawyer, S.J., president and editor in chief of America Media, said, “We are grateful that Mr. Reidy will join us to continue building on Outreach’s important work and ministry. He comes with a demonstrated track record of leadership in ministerial settings and understanding of institutional charism and mission, especially in his work with the Sisters of Charity and the University of Mount Saint Vincent, and we are excited for his contributions to this important ministry as part of America Media.”
Mr. Reidy will begin as executive director of Outreach in January.
