What kind of content is Outreach looking for?

Outreach is a resource for LGBTQ Catholics, their families and friends, and those who minister to them. Outreach is also a celebration of LGBTQ life in the church. The Outreach website is a collection of resources, news articles and essays that touch on question important to the LGBTQ Catholic community.

While our stories will vary, and be informed by the news cycle and happenings in the church, the Outreach editorial vision exists to help guide the content we commission and publish.

Many LGBTQ Catholics have felt at various points in their lives that they faced a choice: live with authenticity and integrity or remain part of the church that has meant so much to them. The possibility of active involvement in the church as a member of the LGBTQ community often seemed impossible.

To that end, Outreach is committed to highlighting stories of LGBTQ Catholics who have found ways to thrive in the church. When LGBTQ Catholics, or their friends and family, feel as if they cannot make life in the church work for them or their loved ones, they should find at Outreach ample examples that inspire, edify and encourage them to imagine new possibilities.

The challenges and frustrations that accompany LGBTQ life in the church are not to be ignored or dismissed, but acknowledged and explored, and when appropriate, we publish stories about personal struggles. At the same time, the church is blessed with a rich abundance of LGBTQ experiences and members of this community are active in every facet of the church, from faithful Mass-going Catholics and inspiring volunteers, to committed educators and ministry professionals.

We seek to share these stories, to offer the church and the wider world a glimpse into a reality that is too often hidden from those who need to see it most.
